SU’s Student Health Insurance Plan – a platinum-rated plan for all SU students
“A student’s health and well-being is crucial to their capacity to learn. To ensure students are prepared for medical situations that could create barriers to their learning, Syracuse University requires full-time, matriculated students to carry qualifying health insurance coverage. Through the Syracuse University Student Health Insurance Plan (SHIP), eligible students have access to comprehensive health care coverage”.
This platinum-rated plan features comprehensive coverage and is administered by AETNA Student Health. It includes emergency and non-emergency coverage, also allowing for spouse/dependent coverage. The effective dates of coverage for the full year plan are August 1, 2018 – July 31, 2019. A summary of costs and benefits from this current year are available as below.
SHIP Benefits Summary (brochure – from current year)
Some SHIP benefits have been extended/improved for the coming academic year. A new summary brochure will be available over the summer.
SHIP Rates and Dates of Coverage
The SHIP annual rate is exceptionally reasonable, especially given the level of coverage provided. Students funded on a full or partial GA line will receive a partial subsidy covering costs of the plan.
All entering students will be automatically enrolled in the SU Student Health Insurance Plan (SHIP) unless they provide proof of insurance to waive this requirement. The Deadline to waive the SHIP for Fall 2018 is September 17, 2018.
How to Waive the Student Health Insurance Plan
Summer arriving MPA students may purchase (at a pro-rated cost) the final month of last years plan (July 1, 2018 – July 31, 2018). Please note that this final month will still be subject to the annual deductible of $100.
Being and Staying Healthy is important for everyone – and SU’s Student Health Insurance Policy and Plan helps to ensure that all students have access to affordable, comprehensive health insurance, medical care and well-being support.
Syracuse University operates its own Student Health Center, which also provides an array of medical services, an on-campus pharmacy, emergency services, mental health counseling, as well as wellness and support services to students across campus.
