Application Tip – Proofread, Proofread, Proofread!

Take Care to Proofread All of your Written Work.

Take care to Proofread ALL of the written work in your application

Proofread, Proofread, Proofread! I cannot say it enough. I have read well over seven thousand applications for our graduate programs. It am still surprised to see sloppy written work.   As an admissions committee reads through your application, resume and personal statement, nothing will stand out more than poor writing fraught with grammatical and spelling mistakes.  Applicants are often very cautious in proof reading their personal statements, but leave flaws in their resumes or the questions on the application itself.  These errors stick out like a sore thumb in an otherwise decent application. Consistent errors will negatively impact your application.  And, they are easy to fix with just a little extra time and attention.   Do yourself a favor and take care in answering all questions with care to watch your grammar and spelling.  Please know that while “spell check” and similar programs can be helpful, they are not always your friend.  Only by you taking the extra time to review all, can you ensure that you are presenting you best foot forward.  It does matter, and can really make a difference.
